The Innovation Goal
Complex Interactivity Meets Strict Safety Our client envisioned a premium Felt Quiet Book featuring a "Farm Life" theme. The goal was to pack high-value educational functions—like harvesting simulations and shape sorting—into a single product. However, the initial design relied on standard industrial Velcro, which was too abrasive for toddlers. Additionally, with tightening global regulations, the client needed absolute assurance that every fiber and fastener was chemically safe and traceable.
The DFM Solution
End-to-End Safety: From Sourcing to Structure To ensure full compliance and safety, our engineering team took a holistic approach, controlling both the supply chain and the physical design.
Rigorous Supply Chain Control & Compliance: We didn't just buy materials; we audited the source. We implemented a strict supplier vetting process, ensuring all raw materials—from the felt fabric to the soft Velcro—were certified non-toxic and compliant with REACH, EN71, and CPSIA standards. We conducted rigorous Incoming Quality Control (IQC) on every batch to verify that materials were free from harmful chemicals before production even began.
Upgrading to Soft-Touch Fasteners: We replaced abrasive standard Velcro with specialized soft-touch hook-and-loop tape. This premium material provides optimal adhesion while featuring a smooth, skin-safe surface, effectively eliminating scratch risks without compromising playability.
Anti-Strangulation & Anchoring: To prevent physical hazards, we strictly limited cord lengths to prevent entanglement and utilized reinforced thermal-bonding for small parts, ensuring the product passed the 90N tension test against choking.
